What if there was no internet? Are we supposed to endlessly post newspaper ads just to find lost people? Or do we have to hand out flyers every single day till someone is able to give out a few clues?

Nothing is kept private these days. You worry about eavesdroppers when the rest of the world goes after hackers. You fret about secured mails while technology trashes out the last trace of privacy. So much for staying anonymous.

With today’s technology, it’s easy to see why people don’t think much about finding a particular person. All you need is a name, and a click of the mouse button would get you thousands of results based on that particular name.

But now that presents a different situation all together, because what would you do with a thousand (and most likely more) results when all you really need is a single result that is accurate and complete?

Whether you are looking for an old friend or someone who owes you something, finding people is made so much easier with today’s technology. However, when you get right down to it, you pretty much use the same techniques and methods used by hundreds of investigators decades ago. The only difference is the technology, which is certainly a step up from what they used to be.

Have you ever tried searching for people online and came up empty-handed? Sure, there are millions of websites purportedly providing you with ways to find people online, and yet searching for people is still as difficult as ever. Or at least, it does not yield the kind of results one would expect with all this technology around to help us.

So you are trying to figure out how to find people for free. Let’s say you know this person and you are sure he has an email address. Now, you want to find out what it is. What’s the first place to go?

The obvious answer, of course, is the Internet. But typing the words “find people for free” will only result in thousands of website links and only few of them actually useful for your search. How do you narrow it all down?
